Letter to my Father

Dear Dad,

When we are young, growing up we think we have all the answers. We think we see the whole world and understand how it works. Sometimes, as children and teenagers, we get so caught up in our own dramas, that we don’t really grasp how they can effect you. As children we sometimes say and do hurtful things but never really think that it touches you. To the young us, you were that stone man who never waivered or faltered.

As an adult we see things more clearly. We remeber what you tried to teach us then and appriciate those lessons now. We understand now the things you tried to shield us from. We know now that your feelings can be hurt easily, just as our own, but that you hid that away for us. We see that the anger was really fear when we did something that could have harmed us.

As an adult we can say thank you for never giving up on us. Thank you for your strength and patients. Thank you for the life you have shown us and molding us into the people we are today. Thank you for being a real dad.

With all our Love,

Your Child

To all the Dads out there:  Sometimes being a dad is a thankless job (even from your significant other) but it is one of the most important ones. Your children look up to you and need all those traits that only a dad can provide. They need the support and strength that comes from you. Any guy can create life but it takes a man to be a Dad. So to all of you Dads out there, I tip my hat to you.
