The State of Naps
So the triplets will be 20 months in five days. We have been down to one nap a day since about 11-12 months old. It’s never been too bad. Sometimes they will play a little before falling asleep but not for very long. After switching to toddler beds (almost 2 months ago now) we went to an hour later nap (noon instead of 11am) but didn’t have any real problems. This week though has been a nightmare!
I think they have napped one day so far this week and it was less then 2 hours. The rest of the days they just play, crawl under their beds, jump on the mat on the floor, and have a grand old time. The problem is that later in the day they get extremely cranky, scream, and fight all evening. They have been going to bed between 7:30-8pm but last night it was so bad they had to go to bed at 6pm and they were out like a light. I know they need their nap. I know they are no where near ready to give it up. I just can’t figure out what is going on though. I have asked some other MoMs but have failed to get any insight. It is times like these that having multiples is very difficult. You live and die by your routines. Even though they get more relaxed as the kids get older, the routine is still there as a guide. Perhaps since we have been stuck in the same general routine for about a year now, that it is hard for me to see what needs to be changed. Obviously something does though. I had planned on trying to put the kids down an hour later today (1pm) to see if that helped but they were acting sooo tired, so I gave in and they went down at noon. An hour later they are still playing and carrying on. So tomorrow I will just have to bite the bullet, find something to entertain them longer, and make them stay up until 1pm. If that doesn’t work though, I have no idea what will. All I can do is cross my fingers and hope for the best. This is one of those: live and learn kind of deals 🙂
