Potty Training: Day One
Potty training triplets. Day one: Ok, so we got up this morning, changed into just t-shirts (barebottom) and sat on our potties. No one did anything and they seemed a little confused as to what mom was doing. Haley was perfectly fine with running around half naked. Happy as could be. Caitlin and Criton took a little more time to get used to it. Caitlin was my first accident, and she was not happy about it. She looked down at her legs and started crying as I picked her up and rushed her to the potty chair. She didn’t pee anymore but she sat there without issues. I cleaned her up after a few mins and sent her on her way.
I kept trying to catch her before she would start but she was quick. Before they went for their nap though she was going and sitting on the potty by herself but not doing anything in it. There was one time where she went, sat down for a few mins, got up and then started peeing. You can tell though that she is definitely feeling the sensation she has to go by the way she acts, so that is good start! Criton on the other hand has been getting a kick out of peeing on the floor and watching himself do it. He finds it fascinating. I would immediately pick him up when I saw this and rushed him to the potty chair. He would be done by the time I got there though. At first he would cry whenever I sat him down and then after 45 seconds or so he was fine. I think he might be my biggest challenge and he is definitely going in underwear tomorrow so he can’t get the amusement of watching himself pee on the floor, only in the potty lol. Haley is different. I know she can tell when she has to go because she gets very upset right before see pees (this happened twice). The first time she started peeing on the floor I rushed her to her potty chair, she sat the doing nothing for a few mins then she peed a lot in the potty chair. Yay Haley!! The second time she was throwing a fit and peed everywhere before I could get her to the chair. She was extremely upset about this. So, the first part of day one there were some tears, some success, and a lot of mess… all in all though I think it is going pretty well. I know it is an adjustment for them, going from diapers to nothing, and it will take some time for them to get comfortable. The biggest thing is to just breath, deal with the mess, and praise whenever they sit/ go on their potties. 🙂 We are using praise and happy dance as our reward for them going in the potty. I know a lot of moms who do M&M’s or stickers though (which we might try later). We do plan on picking up some underwear for them tonight and using it tomorrow. I know bare bottom is the best way but with three I think we will take the second best route. I think it will make them a little more comfortable, as they have never been naked before except for baths, and you can tell it is a little “unnerving” to them. We are still doing diapers at nap time and bedtime. I will try to write more tonight on how the rest of our day goes, if not I’ll catch you all up tomorrow.
