Potty Training

Potty training at 19 months?  Some of you might say I have lost my mind. Perhaps I have, but after our doctor visit yesterday and talking with some other moms, I think we are going to try it. They show some interest and have some other signs (like being mostly dry after naps and in the morning and staying dry for longer periods of time.)

Worst case scenario, we do this, they show they are not ready, and we try again later. So I have done some research and have decided to try the 3 day method. Here is a link outlining it: Potty training in 3 days So in preparation for this we are going to buy 3 potty chairs. The ones that have come highly recommended to us are the Fisher-Price Precious Planet Froggy Friend Potty ones. We had thought about getting the ones that play music but there have been quite a few people saying that the music was more distracting then helpful. Now you might be asking “Isn’t 19 months a little early to start?”  It depends on how you look at it. There are two schools of thought on potty training. The older way is: training your child around 15-24months (majority being around 18 months). It is thought that the children will pick up on it more quickly and be less resistant at this age. I tend to think this might be right since switching to toddler beds early has actually been fairly smooth compared to what I have heard from other moms who waited until closer to 3 years old.   The other school of thought is: waiting until the child wants to do it. Which is usually closer to age 3. Which is what you can find ll over the internet. Now I am not saying one is better then the other, but after a lot of discussion I am leaning towards the older school right now. Both of my older children were potty trained by 2 years old although I didn’t do Fabulous at the time, but now it makes me nervous to do this on my own with the triplets. Michael and I haven’t completely worked it out but I am thinking either this weekend or next weekend we will start the grand adventure of potty training! I’ll keep everyone posted every step of the way. What we find that works, what doesn’t, any potty training tips, and how we, as parents, survive the mess 🙂  So keep checking back!
