Caitlin… Birth

Caitlin was born second and was the smallest baby. She weighed 6lb 3oz. She was Baby A in the womb. She laid all across the bottom of the uterus blocking the cervix. She was my kicker. When she moved she always seemed to be kicking like crazy.

She would also start crazy kicking matches with her brother Criton. She also was sent to the Continuing Care Nursery per hospital policy because they were born at 35 weeks and 6 days. Unlike the other two she did have some minor issues when being born due to my complications at the end of the pregnancy. I gained 31 lbs of fluid in one week from Pre eclampsia. Unfortunately there was a large amount of fluid collection the the bottom part of my abdomen where she was laying. When she was born she had some fluid in her lungs (they think because of the fluid that collected in that area). She need some oxygen via nasal cannula for 2 days and then 5 days of antibiotics to ensure she did not develop an infection. While in the hospital she started having some reflux issues. We had a nurse who kept pushing her to eating more and more which caused her to start throwing up. It is thought that this is the reason why she developed the reflux they way she did. Now reflux is very common in preemies, but the events leading up to her having issues and the situation as a whole points to that as being the cause. This bought her another 5 days in the hospital due to some desating ( brief reduction in oxygen) when she would throw up. So that whole first week I was bouncing between home and the hospital all day and night because two babies were home and one was in the hospital. (She is doing really well now)
